One of my favorite stories of a dear friend of mine is the time she was suspended in grade school for defending her younger siblings. Moving forward, everyone knew to stay away from her siblings – if they didn’t, they would have my friend to answer to. Don’t worry, she never hurt anyone, that’s definitely not in her nature. I promise, she’s a very caring, nurturing person.

I love her story because, no matter the consequence, my friend stood up for what she believed in and defended who she loved. Even today, people know not to mess with her family or friends. She’s a protector and loyal to the end. It’s people like my friend, who stand up for what they believe in, who make a difference in this world. Sometimes it’s a small gesture, like volunteering once a week to read to kids. Or choosing to shop socially responsible retailers.

For Michael Kors, what began as a small thing has turned into a big thing. What started as simply volunteering in the kitchen for God’s Love We Deliver turned into a commitment to ending world hunger. And now he’s using the power of social media. His #WatchHungerStop Campaign, which launched on World Hunger Day and goes through October 31st, is a challenge to raise enough money to donate 10 million meals to the UN’s World Food Program. As of today, they have raised enough to cover 5.3 million meals.

For those who believe that everyone should be able to go to bed on a full stomach. And believes that everyone deserves to have a nutritious meal, you have the opportunity to do something small that will add up to something big.

All you have to do is visit the nearest Michael Kor’s retail locationand pick up the official #WatchHungerStop shirt for a minimum donation of $5. Then, simply take a photo of yourself, share it on Instagram (or any other social media platform) and use the hashtag #WatchHungerStop. For each photo posted using the hashtag, Michael Kors will donate 100 meals.

There are 805 million people in the world who do not have enough food to eat. They could use people like you. Like me. Like Michal Kors. Be like my friend, who stood up for what she believed in and made it known that bad behavior needed to end. And the good news is, you won’t be suspended for defending someone.
