My sister recently got married and I was her Maid of Honor. Basically that means I got to be the one to throw the parties. And I love to throw parties, so naturally, I loved the role.
For her bridal shower, we did a wine tasting, which is a fun way to get people talking without relying on the traditional “how do you know the bride” monotony.
When they arrived, each guest was presented with a card and had to visit three tasting stations: Red, White & Bubbly. Because it wouldn’t be a celebration without a little bubbly.
At each table were three tastings and everyone had to guess which was most expensive, mid level, and the least expensive bottle. Now, I know what most of you are thinking. This isn’t a DIY or wedding blog – why are you writing about bridal showers and parties? Don’t worry, I haven’t jumped the shark.
Good news to all you wine and champaign lovers, I have three words for you that will change your life – One Hope Wines. Not only are they delicious wines, they donate half of the profits made from each bottle to charity. Each varietal is associated with a different cause and the causes range from planting tress to fighting breast cancer to supporting our troops.
For my sister’s shower, we served three different varietals and supported three great causes.
2011 Pinot Noir – Fund Pet Adoptions: ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) receives half the profits from each bottle to help shelter animals find loving homes.
2013 California Sauvignon Blanc – Save Our Planet: American Forests plants a tree for every bottle purchased to help protect our forests and ensure our natural resources flourish for generations to come.
California Brut Sparkling Wine – End Child Hunger: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger world wide, reaching 97 million people in 80 countries with food assistance in 2013.
